IPL started its journey in 2008 and now is one of the sporting leagues in the world. Indian Premier League is played on Indian soil but at times it has also been played on foreign soil. The 2009 IPL was played in South Africa and IPL has also had some of its matches in UAE. The fan following of the IPL has grown over the years and with it, the demand of cities to host IPL has also increased. Due to various reasons and issues, IPL has seen changes in its venues over the years. Below is a list of all the stadiums which have hosted IPL games over the years:

 

List Of All IPL Venues:

# M. Chinnaswamy Stadium based in Bangalore has been home to the Royal Challengers of Bangalore since IPL’s inaugural season. The stadium has hosted over 70 matches and has been one of the high scoring grounds in the league due to its short boundaries.

 

# PCA Stadium is based in Mohali and has been home to Kings Eleven Punjab. It has hosted around 50 matches.

 

# Feroz Shah Kotla Ground recently renamed as Arun Jaitley stadium has been home to the Delhi based franchise. Delhi Daredevils renamed to Delhi Capitals have played around 70 matches in the stadium.

 

# Eden Gardens is one of the most iconic Indian grounds, it recently hosted India’s first-ever Day-Night test match against Bangladesh. Eden is home to Kolkata Knight Riders and has hosted over 70 IPL matches.

 

# Wankhede Stadium is India’s most iconic ground, the Indian team won the world cup final in Wankhede back in 2011. It is home to Mumbai Indians, IPL’s most successful team.

 

# Swai Man Singh Stadium of Jaipur is home to Rajasthan Royals, the winners of the inaugural edition of the tournament.

 

# Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium based in the city of Hyderabad has been home to two franchises in IPL, it was home to Deccan Chargers from 2008 to 2012 and is currently home to Sunrises Hyderabad(2013-present).

 

# M.A Chidambaram Stadium of Chennai is home to one of the most loved IPL franchise, Chennai Super Kings. The stadium was vacant for two years(2016&17) during the ban of CSK from IPL and could only host one match in the 2018 edition to due some issues.

 

# DY Patil Stadium of Navi Mumbai has been used by three different franchises as an alternative to their home ground. It has hosted matches of Mumbai Indians, Deccan Chargers and Pune Warriors.


# Brabourne Stadium
is also based in Mumbai and has been used as an alternative home ground by Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals.

 

# Barabati Stadium of Cuttack has been home to Deccan Chargers, Kings Eleven, and Kolkata Knight Riders.

 

# Sardar Patel Stadium of Ahmedabad was used by Rajasthan Royals as an alternative home ground.

 

# VCA Stadium of Nagpur was the alternate home of Deccan Chargers.

 

# HPCA Stadium has been home to Kings Eleven Punjab. The stadium is based in the city of Dharmshala.

 

# Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium of Kochi was home to Kochi Tuskers Kerela who were included in the IPL for the 2011 season.

 

# Holkar Stadium of Indore was home to Kochi Tuskers Kerela as well as Kings Eleven Punjab. It was alternative home ground for both of the franchises.

 

# ACA-VDCA Stadium of Visakhapatnam has been an alternative home ground to four IPL franchises(Deccan Chargers, Sunrises Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, and Rising Pune Supergiant).

 

# Maharastra Cricket Association Stadium of Pune has been home for Pune Warriors, Rising Pune Supergiant, Chennai Super Kings and Kings Eleven Punjab.

 

# Raipur International Cricket Stadium of Raipur was an alternative home to Delhi Daredevils.

 

# JSCA International Cricket Stadium of Ranchi was an alternative home for Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders

 

# Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium was home to Gujrat Lions, a franchise that took part in IPL 2016 & 17 edition. It is based in Rajkot.

 

# Green Park Stadium of Kanpur was also used by Gujrat Lions in their two-year tenure in the Indian Premier League.

The above mentioned is a list of all IPL venues from India. Initially, each franchise had there permanent home grounds where they played their home matches but over the years due to political tensions, renovation, water problems, and other issues, the grounds had to be shifted.

IPL has also been played in UAE and South Africa, UAE has hosted only a phase of the tournament in 2014 whereas South Africa hosted the entire tournament in the year 2009. The below mentioned is a list of all IPL venues from overseas.

St George’s Oval based in the city of Port Elizabeth.

Kingsmead Cricket Ground, Durban.

SuperSport Park based in Centurion.

Buffalo Park based in East London.

New Wanderers Stadiumbased in  Johannesburg.

De Beers Diamond Oval based in Kimberley.

Chevrolet Park in the city of Bloemfontein.

The entire IPL season of 2009 was played in South Africa and Adam Gilchrist led Deccan Chargers to victory in that edition.

Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium based in Abu Dhabi.

Sharjah Cricket Stadium based in Sharjah.

Dubai International Cricket Stadium based in Dubai.
