Australia’s premium Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has been more than a relevant name in the International circuit since making his International debut for Australian in 2010. In a recent interview, the New South Wales born Fast bowler opened up about people comparing him with Aussie legend Glenn McGrath who has more than 500 Test wickets and 300+ ODI wickets.
Hazlewood said that since the beginning of his career, he has drawn attention for being pretty similar to McGrath in terms of their temperament, approach and bowling style. Both of the bowlers have a knack of bowling on correct line and length and both of them are also from the same region in Australia – NSW.
Hazelwood has given batters problems with his lines, lengths, and ability to move the ball, much like McGrath did despite not having an express pace.
“Since I started playing for New South Wales even before that. Just playing in the country with him being from a country area as well. You know we are very similar I guess in the way we go out about our business of bowling and come from similar backgrounds. So there is plenty of things alike there yeah it has been since I have been 15-16 years old.”
Other than this topic, Hazlewood spoke about his rivalry with Veteran Indian Test batter Cheteshwar Pujara and the Aussie said that it is a big deal for Bowlers to get the wicket of Pujara given his resilience in the Red ball format. “It’s a bigger thrill for the bowlers (to dismiss Pujara). I think when you do end up getting his wicket, it means you have earned it.”
Lastly Josh Hazlewood concluded by adding his own rivalry with Pujara by saying that he has had a good time against the Indian batter and reminded everyone of the importance of Pujara’s wicket.
