India’s T20I squad for WI series announced, Tilak Varma gets maiden call-up

The selection committee of Indian cricket, headed by the newly appointed chief Ajit Agarkar, announced Team India’s squad for the five-match T20I series against the West Indies next month yesterday evening.

The T20I series will begin on August 3, 2023, in Trinidad. The next two matches will be played in Guyana on August 6 and 8, 2023, respectively. The final two T20I matches between India and the West Indies will be played in Florida on August 12 and 13, 2023.

The squad announced by the BCCI has some interesting selections in it, with Tilak Varma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Mukesh Kumar getting their maiden call-ups to the Indian T20 team. The team will be led by Hardik Pandya on the tour, with Suryakumar Yadav as his deputy.


Senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammad Shami have been given rest from the T20 tour, and the youngsters have been given chances. This is maybe a hint from the BCCI that they are planning to start a transition phase for the Indian T20I team.

Bowlers like Ravi Bishnoi, Umran Malik, and Avesh Khan have also returned to the squad in the absence of the main fast bowlers. The bowling attack of Team India on this tour will be a new one, including a lot of youngsters. The full squad is listed below.

The batting department in the squad is looking really solid, with a lot of attacking batters and finishers. Rinku Singh, who had a great IPL season, is unlucky to miss out on the squad, as he is one player who should have been there at any cost.
