Ind vs Pak top 5 wins:- Arguably, the biggest rivalry in world cricket, India-Pakistan match is never less than a war. The arch rivalry between both the nations often reminds us of the 1999 Kargil War when both the countries waged a war with the armed forces in the Kargil District and LOC area. On 26th July 1999, India created history winning the war against Pakistan. Since then, the cricket rivalry has become even more tensed between both nations.

And on this auspicious day, let’s recall India’s five epic victories against Pakistan in cricket:

  1.   T20 World Cup Final 2007

One of the most thrilling world cup finals, India won their first world cup trophy since 1983 triumph. 

Riding on Gambhir’s brilliant 75 off 54 balls, India compiled 158 runs in 20 overs in the first innings. Pakistan, in reply, didn’t get off to a good start with their top three batsmen departing as early as in the first six overs. Senior players like Younis Khan and Shoaib Malik didn’t stay around for too long either, however, skipper Misbah-ul-Haq fought the lone battle and took the game till the last over and almost won the game for his team.   

With 13 needing in last over, MS Dhoni surprised everyone by handing the ball to Joginder Sharma instead of Harbhajan Singh. A gamble that proved out well for the team. Misbah launched the second ball to the stands only to reduce the equation to 6 of 4. 

With just six runs required of four balls, Misbah hit a scoop shot that went straight into the hands of Sreesanth handing India their maiden T20 World Cup title. It was one of the most thrilling final matches between the two nations.

The 2007 T-20 World Cup final between India and Pakistan has to be one of the best World Cup finals.  

  1.   ICC World Cup 2003

India’s 2003 World Cup match against Pakistan goes down to be one of the classical triumphs all of time.  

 It was a group league match between the two nations. Pakistan had won the toss and elected to bat first. Their destructive opener Saeed Anwar scored a century taking his team to 273 for 7. In reply, the little master went hammer and tongs, notching as many as 98 runs off 75 balls. Middle-order contribution from Mohammad Kaif, Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh made a valuable contribution as India chased down the total in 45.4 overs. Later, Sachin Tendulkar also quoted that it was one of the most memorable matches for him in his entire career. India beat Pakistan by 6 wickets to excel further in the tournament. 

  1.   India Vs Pakistan 2004, Karachi 

Putting into bat first, Virender Sehwag gave a good start to the team with a belligerent 79. Rahul Dravid scored 99, while Ganguly and Kaif also made contributions with 45 and 46 as India amassed 349 runs, setting a target of 350 for Pakistan. Pakistan fought a brilliant chase as Inzamam Ul-Haq guided Pakistan to reach 334 only to lose the match by 5 runs. Had Pakistan chased down that total, it would have been written as one of the all-time chases in one-day cricket. 

  1.   Asia Cup, 2010

The 4th match of the Asia Cup saw India meet Pakistan at Dambulla International Stadium. Batting first, Pakistan notched a formidable total of 268 runs. Riding on Gambhir’s 83 off 97, India led a fine chase with the match going down to the last over of the match. There were some stellar performances in the match, however, the major drama began in the 47th over when Harbhajan Singh hit a humongous six off Shoaib Akhtar. Before the last over there was a verbal spat between Akhtar and Harbhajan that cost India lose focus of the game costing the set batsman Suresh Raina’s wicket. Both the teams were in pressure but Harbhajan hitting a big six off the second last ball of the match ensured India of a thumping win over the arch-rivals. It was a match that still reminds us of the spat between Akhtar and Harbhajan and goes down to be one of the best wins for India against Pakistan. 

  1.   Asia Cup 2012

The match witnessed the two Asian Cricket playing stalwarts facing off each other. Pakistan put up a mammoth total 330 runs with their openers Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed scoring respective centuries. It seemed a stiff total as India lost the early wicket of in-form batsman Gautam Gambhir. However, Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar kept the scoreboard ticking. While Sachin Tendulkar scored a half-century, Virat Kohli went on to score 183 runs off 148 deliveries studded with 22 boundaries a six. Virat Kohli singlehandedly won India the game single-handedly as it was an innings of pure class who showed the world what he is capable of. While nobody expected the outcome favouring India in that match, India went on to win the match with 2.1 Overs to spare.
