Indian Shooters Led By Mehuli Clean Sweep Top Honours At SAG Games

The dominance of Indian shooters was reestablished at the 13th South Asian Games as Indian contingent got hold of nine medals, including four gold medals on Tuesday.

The Indian women shooters led by Mehuli Ghosh swept all the top honors on offer in the women’s 10m air rifle event the ongoing 13th South Asian Games. Mehuli took the yellow medal by surpassing the world record score. However, her effort will not be recognized as a world record as the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) has not acknowledged the SAG’s results for the purpose of records.

 

Mehuli took the top spot at the podium with a total score of 253.3. Her score is 0.4 points more than the existing world record of 252.9 held by compatriot Apurvi Chandela. Mehuli’s performance was the cherry on the cake as the silver and bronze medal also went into India’s kitty.

Mehuli was followed by Shriyanka Sadangi and Shreya Agrawal who took the silver and bronze respectively. Shriyanka booked a silver with a total score of 250.8 in final, on the other hand Shreya shot 227.2 to settle for bronze to make it an all Indian podium finish at the Satdobato Shooting Range.

The day did not end here for the shooting contingent as India grabbed the top honour in the 10m air rifle event.

In the men’s 50m rifle 3 position, Chain Singh stood at the top of the podium followed by compatriot Akhil Sheoran to finish in top two of the event. In the 25m center fire pistol event India again finished in the top two as Yogesh Singh and Gurpreet Singh clinched the gold and silver medal respectively. Indian contingent concluded the shooting competition on Tuesday with a silver medal in the 25m center fire pistol team event.
