In the 3rd and last ODI between India and New Zealand, the Indian openers ran riot against the Kiwi bowling attack. Both the batters took the charge from the start and added 230 runs for the first wicket. The start India received through the 2 explosives, the hosts reached a total of 385 runs.

Their partnership has broken a record which was set by Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag. After losing the toss at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, Rohit Sharma and Shubhman Gill walked out to bat with a huge target on their mind.

Their intent was pretty clear right from the start as they batter with a run rate of over 8 until Rohit Sharma got out in the 26th over. Both of them reached Triple figures and their innings was somehow similar. They were 97-97 at one point of time before the Indian skipper ended his 3-year drought with an 83 ball Century.

Gill reached his century just a moments later. The duo created history today at the Holkar Stadium.

Their partnership run rate of 8.10 was the highest by any previous Indian opening pair until the 25th over. Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag held this record before Sharma-Gill overtook.

Ganguly-Sehwag had a run rate of 7.35 against West Indies. Another record that Sharma and Gill made today was their partnership of 212 runs, which was the 5th highest in the format for India. They have become the latest entrants in this list which is headed by Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly’s record of 258 runs for the 1st wicket.
