Former England Cricketer Monty Panesar, said while interacting to a cricket channel Sports Yaari in response to a question asked related to New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson to which Panesar said that If Williamson was Indian he would be an ideal person to replace Rahane as both players resembles the same nature.
As per Panesar, Kohli rules the roost when it comes to ODI cricket while he will prefer Williamson in the longest format of the game due to his efficiency to bat during long spells. He also went on to compare Kohli, Sharma, and Williamson in detail.
“I think both are extremely good. Both can steady the team in any situation. If you look at T20Is and ODIs, Virat Kohli is the best chaser. But Kane Williamson plays equally well in all three formats. I think his level is above Rohit Sharma but a little below Virat Kohli.
“If Kane was an Indian, he would probably be an ideal replacement for Ajinkya Rahane in the Test batting line-up,” Panesar was quoted as saying in Sports Yaari.
Panesar has backed Kohli and Company to win series against England in a five-match Test series.
“The first factor is that the matches will start in August, which has the warmest weather in the year. The second factor is that there are five Test matches taking place in a short span of time and India play well when they have the momentum,” he added.
Prior to Men in Blue playing England series they will be locking horns against New Zealand in the inaugural edition of World Test Championship final scheduled on 18th June 2021 at Southampton.
