ICC World CUP 2023: Shikhar Dhawan Gives his Verdict for No.4 Spot
ICC World Cup 2023 is approaching, and Shikhar Dhawan was overlooked for the Asia Cup tournament selection. But this has not stopped Dhawan from giving his opinion about the squad that has been selected for the World Cup. Recently there have been a lot of questions about who will be filling the number 4 spot of the Indian team. There are several contenders for that position, like Shreyas Iryer, KL Rahul, and also Suryakumar Yadav. Shikhar has mentioned his choice, and he is expecting him to perform well in the World Cup.

Shikar Dhawan’s preference:
As per Shikhar Dhawan Suryakumar Yadav is certainly going to be the best choice for the no.4 position. He believes that Kumar has spent a good amount of time on the international level, and he can certainly make a good contribution to the team.
It looks like Shikhar Dhawan is considering the performance of Suryakumar Yadav in the T20I. There is no doubt that in T20I he is a champion, and currently one of the best batters in the world in this format. However, at the same time, it is necessary to understand that his ODI records are not good. The T20I champion has got several chances in the ODI, but he has failed to be consistent in this format.
ODI statistics of Suryakumar Yadav
- Matches – 23
- Runs – 433 runs
- 50s – 2
- 100s – 0
- Average – 24.05
- Highest score – 64
The stats of Suryakumar Yadav given above, are not going to help him get a place in the team, that also over Shreyas Iyer, or KL Rahul. On the other hand, these players have far better records in ODI than Suryakumar Yadav. KL Rahul is having 45.08 runs average, and Shreyas Iyer is averaging 46.85. This is certainly going to rule out the selection of Suryakumar Yadav. It is clear that the ODI records of Suryakumar Yadav are not going parallel to the opinion of Shikhar Dhawan.
