Here’s Why Waqar Younis Didn’t Apply for Pakistan Team Head Coach Position

 

Waqar Younis has donned the cap of head coach for Pakistan team on 2 occasions and produced lucrative results, but this time around he didn’t apply for the prestigious post and instead feathered the cap of a bowling coach.

This will be the fifth occasion when the king of the reverse swing will be the part of Pakistan coaching staff. He served as head coach on 2 occasions, bowling coach during 2006-07 period and fielding coach during the 2009-10 period.

If rumours are to be believed, Waqar Younis was in the race for the post of Head coach, but the legend didn’t send any application for the post. While the reason is still unknown, Waqar Younis serving as bowling coach under Misbah Ul Haq is seen as a demotion.

Misbah was coached by Younis during his coaching stint in 2010-11 and 2014-2016. The former Pakistan bowler Waqar Younis has, however, called promotion or demotion as just a frame of mind.

“As far as thinking like it’s a demotion, it’s only a myth that you go up or down,” Waqar said.

“Our goal is how to make Pakistan a better team. For me, the exciting thing is to try and help some of the promising youngsters who are in the pipeline, and some more who will come in the near future too.” He further added.
