‘He’s been solid backer of my stance’-Glenn Maxwell Opens up on how Virat Kohli supported him during his mental struggle

Glenn Maxwell who had a bad patch with the bat in the last season of IPL held in UAE behind closed doors.  As he was released before the IPL 2021 auctions from KXIP he wished to share the dressing room with skipper Virat Kohli.

And his dream was fulfilled once the IPL 2021 auction was done as he was picked by RCB for whopping amount of INR 14.25 crores.

Recently Maxwell opened about his battle with mental struggles. In fact, in 2019 he had taken a break from the game due to mental issues. And now, Maxwell has stated how Kohli backed him when he spoke to the Indian skipper about the mental aspect of the game. The Aussie ace allrounder stated that Kohli has always backed him on his break from International cricket as the latter understand a lot about expectation and pressure that every cricketer goes through and when the players are estimated to deliver all the time when they step on to the field.

“He’s been a solid backer of my stance. In a way, he probably understood a lot of the things that I was going through, a lot of expectation and pressure, which I’m sure he can relate to,” said Maxwell to AAP.

He further went ahead and praised Kohli the way he adapts to all conditions which clearly indicates that he is the pinnacle of the game across all formats. Kohli’s dominance can be predicted by the way that he is the only current player who averages above 50 across all three formats.

“It’s going to be next level. He’s been the pinnacle of the game for a while as a multi-format player from Tests all the way to T20s. He’s been able to adapt his game, dominate for a long period of time and deal with the Indian pressure of being their captain and their best player,” concluded Maxwell.

However Maxwell would be looking to change his slump in form in IPL 2021 for RCB and would not like to remember what he has done with the bat for KXIP in last season.
