Fixtures released for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020

2019 was a year in cricket where we had the biggest cricketing festival of all – the ICC World Cup. But that comes once in four years, and hence cricket enthusiasts will have to wait for a long time for another installment of it. Having said that 2020 will not be any less attractive, as we will have another ICC tournament this year. The top cricketing nations will bring their A-game to lift the ICC World T20.

But before the men take the field, the women will battle it out in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. This edition will be the seventh edition of the tournament, and with time, women’s cricket is gaining enormous popularity. Though the Australian men’s team never lifted the T20 World Cup, their female counterparts are by far the most successful side in the shortest format of the game. They have lifted the silverware four times.

England won the inaugural edition of the tournament, back in 2009. The only other winner is West Indies, who lifted the trophy in 2016. In the same year, the West Indies men’s team lifted the men’s T20 World Cup, courtesy a stunning knock from Carlos Brathwaite. This edition of the competition will be held in Australia, and the matches will be played across six different stadiums. Melbourne Cricket Ground will host the final, whereas Sydney Cricket Ground will host the semi-final.

India’s history in this competition and fixtures

Unlike in men’s World T20, the Indian women’s team never managed to win the coveted prize. They have made it to the semifinals thrice, but have failed to register a single entry in the final. This time, India is in a tough group with Australia, New Zealand, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. Two teams out of the five will advance to the semi-finals. India will start their campaign on 21st January, with a match against the mighty Aussies.
