Germany won the prestigious competition in Orissa’s successful staging of the Men’s Hockey World Cup’s 15th edition.
After the full-time score and the penalty kick resulted in a draw, and the game’s victory was determined based on sudden death, the final game between Germany and Belgium was a top-notch fight that went down to the wire.
India’s performance in the main event was below par as they lost to Black Sticks in the current edition’s pre-quarterfinal round.
Graham Reid will no longer serve as the head coach of the national team, it was decided following a review meeting that was held yesterday.
Reid has contributed significantly to Indian hockey, and in 2020, after 40 years, Men in Blue went on to win the bronze medal, so the decision seems odd.
Reid’s career was over after the failure in one world cup match because of India’s performance in the just finished FIH Pro League, which was also above average.
Thank you Graham Reid, for everything. You are a hero. You revived the sport and gave it a life for all of us here in India.
This feels personal 💔

Agreed that India didn’t have a great #HockeyWorldCup2023 , but surely a coach that helped you win an Olympic Bronze, a CWG silver and 3rd place at FIH pro-league deserved a longer rope, no? #GrahamReid

Graham Reid resigns as Head Coach! The era of the most successful coach in Indian Hockey since 1980 who led
us on a beautiful journey that had more highs than lows comes to an end. Gregg Clarke and Mitch Pemberton also resign. With all my heart, Sir, thank you & good luck! 🙏🫡— Siddharth Pandey (@SportifiedSid) January 30, 2023
Graham Reid has resigned following India's 9th place finish at the #HWC2023. A forgettable end to his tenure, but he will be remembered for leading India to that historic bronze in Tokyo. pic.twitter.com/khMZxkuvqC

Graham Reid has made Indian Hockey exciting & enjoyable. I'll miss the high demand for an intense work rate, and the shift that he had exerted in the Indian Team to make them better. I had always enjoyed your coaching. Thank you for the memories. You will be missed. pic.twitter.com/LNPt76YU9Y

In addition to focusing on enhancing their penalty corner conversion, India needs to master offensive instinct from this point forward.

The forward position should be built with the ideal combination of youth and experience so that they are well equipped to handle challenging circumstances.
Graham Reid has done a lot for the national team, so it will be intriguing to watch who steps into his big shoes.
