Ex Everton Boss Martinez Gives Verdict On Silva

Former Everton manager Roberto Martinez has urged the Toffees to stick with manager Marco Silva amidst their current struggles. The Toffees are currently on a poor run of form and their 2-0 defeat against Norwich recently in the English top-flight led to calls that they should part ways with their manager and bring in fresh energy.

The former Watford boss was appointed to lead the Toffees during the summer of 2018. During his first season in charge last term, the club blew hot and cold. They delivered some sterling performances but were really unable to develop a solid level of consistency which would have allowed them to attain a top-six finish.

The best thing which Silva has done since taking over at Goodison Park was to bring Richarlison to the club from Watford. The Brazilian has since gone on to become a star of the Toffees and since joining the club, he has become a member of the Brazil national team. He even managed to help his country win the Copa America earlier this year.

Everton could just be relegation candidates this season

Finishing around mid-table would not be a blow to the Toffees. It would just indicate that they may just need to change their strategy in order to turn things around. However, based on the way in which they are currently playing, they could just be contenders for relegation. This would be bad. Along with Tottenham, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Liverpool, they are one among a select few clubs who have never been relegated from the English top-flight.

If the club finds themselves in the relegation zone soon, it would make complete sense for them to sack Silva. Currently, the favourites to potentially succeed Silva include former club manager David Moyes and even Slaven Bilic. Moyes would not be a bad choice considering that he is probably the best manager that the club has had since the turn of the century.
