Dhananjaya de Silva has officially resigned as Sri Lanka’s Test captain after an 18‑match spell that included wins over Afghanistan and Bangladesh. The board has yet to name a replacement, and Sri Lanka sit seventh in the World Test Championship ahead of their November series against Pakistan.

De Silva has informed the Sri Lanka Cricket Board of his decision and has made himself available for selection for the upcoming Test in Pakistan in November, leaving his playing role open despite stepping down from captaincy.
