There is so much happening in Indian Sports, where stakeholders who have worked hard behind the scenes to make this entity extremely popular.
Talking about the latest development, Indian Sports Ministry have laid out solid plan to back 13 Multi City Based Franchise Sports Leagues in order to develop Sporting culture in the country.
Dwelling further into developments, they are all set to host distinct leagues in various sporting disciplines including the likes of- Badminton, Archery, Boxing, Basketball, Wrestling, White water Sports and polo.
If you closely observe apart from Cricket, leagues in distinct sports like Kabaddi and Hockey are already operational, while shooting and Yogasanas leagues are already set to commence later this year.
The Biggest Question which arises how Indian Government is planning to Back 13 Multi-City franchise based leagues to be shared in the below format:
1.The Union Ministry aims to facilitate connections between National Sports Federations(NSFs) and Private entities who are coming on board to build a sustainable entity towards developing Sports Leagues across India.
2. “We already have leagues in Hockey and Kabaddi. Shooting and Yogasana Leagues are beginning later this year and there are two more leagues in Cycling and Rugby which are in adavance stage…Only the dates for these two leagues are to be announced. Apart from backing them all, Ministry will support leagues in distinct sporting events including the sports like- Baksetball, Badminton, Archery, Boxing, Wrestling, White Water sports and polo to have a dedicated league structure in the country. This completely suits our aim towards making India a Global Sporting Powerhouse” said Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
3. “By the end of 2025, we will ensure all these 13 leagues are running and all of them would be Professional leagues, in both men’s and women’s section. It will certainly one of the best ways to keep athletes engaged, NSF wanted to conduct these leagues solely due to cash crunch or funding it is ideally not possible. Private stakeholders will come on board also Government will ensure that all these 13 Franchise based leagues in distinct sports is running brilliantly abiding all rules and regulations” added Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
4. The Ministry intention behind organizing all these 13 leagues is directly proportional to securing investment from private stakeholders, and they would be looking to meet the same investment across all leagues which would start most probably from next year.
5. On the sustainability and consistent approach towards organizing these leagues on regular basis, Sports Minister have asserted that plans laid out in place from Ministry and private stakeholders have been brilliant all these have been done to build robust ecosystem which would certainly play an important role in the benefit of athletes.
6. The Sports Ministry is completely assured that once the sporting culture and infrastructure is laid out in place, and we have already bid for 2036 Olympics in Ahmedabad if we get that support brilliantly we can certainly host the mega event in our backyard.
7. The government distinct schemes including the likes of TOPS(Target Olympics Podium Scheme) where those athletes who have been consistent performers are kept separately so that they can deliver with medals once the stage like Olympics is set.
8. Neeraj Chopra, Vineesh Phogat, PV Sindhu and others have already been included in this scheme in which Sindhu and Chopra have already won medals for country.
9. The credit should be given where it is due, schemes like Khelo India Youth Games and Khelo India University Games have significantly helped them to propel them to next level.
10. Grassroot talent are getting tapping in at School and University level where they can make name for themselves and eventually they are succeeding in attaining that.
More Policies Implemented by Ministry of Sports :
11. The Ministry of Sports would be credited for the way they have supporting sporting ecosystem in India as many a times, fans have estimated that a country with 1.5 Billion Population have failed to win maximum medals when it comes to Olympic stage.
12. The Ministry of Sports along with Sports Authority of India and concern stakeholders have worked hard behind the scenes to make this sporting ecosystem more viable.
13. The Sports Ministry should also induct more policies where we can tap grassroot talent unlike other countries including the likes of- China, United States and Australia where they brilliantly tap grassroot talent where the best athletes are identified once it is done all subsequent facilities should be provided to them so that they can excel at the highest level.
14. The Sports Ministry recently held meeting with Private Stakeholders where they have asked them to invest and adopt 2-3 sports where separate recovery and rehabilitation centers should be developed for all these sports.
BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla, were part of that meeting where he said “We will adopt 2-3 sports and develop recovery and rehabilitation centers for these sports.
15. The policies have been strict when it comes to Testing for Doping have become stricter and credit goes to Sports Ministry for implementing these pictures in right direction.
Overall let’s talk about some of the drawbacks which Indian Sports Ministry needs to overcome where they need to invest deeply into marketing so that people know a lot about all these sports.
Apart from that, Indian Sports Ministry should work closely with Private stakeholders some of the top companies where highly investment can be derived, so that leagues could be organized in all these sports on regular basis.
Also grassroot talent problem with proper scouting coaches should be done so that most talents could be possibly identified from grassroot level.
There are other areas, Government should closely work with stakeholders in order to develop infrastructure where variety of Job Creation could be done- Operations, Event management, coaches, officials, referees
If everyone feels empowered there are variety of opportunities should be built in place so that everyone can step into the world of Indian Sporting Ecosystem.
Indian Sports is on the rise and lot has changed and the current government is also putting numerous effort, in order to make sure Sports grow in the country in the biggest pedestal.
Indian Sports policies could be flexible where changes could be done based on the requirement where things could be customized and prepared so that policies could benefit Indian future players.
Overall Sports will grow all they need is more active involvement from other Private Investors.
