Inter director Beppe Marotta implied Tottenham Hotspur have been playing hardball over Christian Eriksen, but opined;

“we hope it can be finalised as soon as possible.”

The Danish international will be available on a Bosman transfer June 30, so Inter had hoped to cut down the €20m asking price, considering they had already agreed to personal terms with the player.

However, the latest reports suggest a deal will only be done for €20m – including bonuses – and a medical is set for Monday or Tuesday.

“We won’t hide, you all know we’ve been negotiating with Tottenham for some time. His contract is due to expire on June 30, so the only rights we are discussing are for those six months,”

Beppe Marotta stopped by Italian broadcaster DAZN before kick-off between Inter and Cagliari, as is the tradition before games, to share his thoughts on all things Nerazzurri. The Inter CEO, Marotta was asked about how close Christian Eriksen was to signing for the Nerazzurri to which he responded in a positive manner.

Everyone knows that we have been negotiation with Tottenham for Eriksen for quite some time. His contract expires at the end of this coming June .

We are optimistic and hope the deal can be finalised as soon as possible, especially as the transfer window closes on Friday.”

He was asked if Eriksen’s arrival meant someone else would be leaving;

“A good player is arriving, then the dynamics of the transfer window are still being evaluated in-house. We’ll always come to the conclusion made by the whole team and every element of the club.”

“The new arrivals are strong professionals, we must give them the right amount of time to settle.”

Marotta was also asked about Antonio Conte seeming to shrug off the transfer strategy in his press conference, complaining

“It’s not as if we signed half of Real Madrid.” Was this critical of the club?

“Conte’s comments are realistic, normal and part of a regular communication protocol with a talented coach.”
