Big Bash League: Jordan Silk and James Vince take Sydney Sixers to a thrilling 6-wickets win over Melbourne Renegades

Sydney Sixers registered a thrilling 6 wickets win over defending Champions Melbourne Renegades in the 20th match of Big Bash League played at Marvel Stadium, Melbourne on Thursday.

Melbourne Renegades captain Aaron Finch won the bat flip and decided to bat first. It was not an ideal start for the hosts as they lost an early wicket in the form of captain Finch for 9 after hitting 2 boundaries. Sam Harper put pressure on Sydney Sixers bowlers with aggressive stroke play along with Shaun Marsh and by the end of six overs, Renegades were at 57  for the loss of 1 wicket.

After the power play overs, Tom Curran got rid of the dangerous Sam Harper for 45 off 24 balls. Harper and Marsh added 58 runs for the 2nd wicket. Shaun Marsh could not score at a quick pace and struggled to time the ball. Sydney Sixers kept bowling at tighter lines and lengths, not allowing Melbourne batsmen to score runs. The veteran Daniel Christian played a great cameo in the end, hitting a quickfire 32 off 17 balls and thereby helping Melbourne Renegades post 153 for 6 in 20 overs.

In reply, Joshua Phillippe and Daniel Hughes started on a great note, putting pressure on the Melbourne Renegades bowlers with good stroke play. At the end of six overs, Sydney Sixers openers scored 44 for 0. While things looked steady for Sydney, Andrews got the wicket of Joshua Phillipp, getting his team back into the contest.

Soon after the timeout, Cameron Boyce got rid off Daniel Hughes to bring back Melbourne Renegades to create the match wide open. In the next over, Andrews dismissed Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques which made the things interesting.

However, James Vince and Jordan Silk steadied the innings with positive stroke play to keep the scoreboard ticking. After hitting a six, Cameron Boyce got rid of Vince for 41, however, the latter did his job wonderfully. Vince and Silk added 57 runs for the 4th wicket. Kane Richardson bowled a brilliant 19th over which made the equation to 10 off last over.

Jordan Silk hit a big six off the 3rd ball in last over to help Sydney Sixers win the match by 6 wickets with 1 ball to spare. Silk remained not out on 36 off 26 balls.

Sydney Sixers 154 for 4 in 19.5 overs ( James Vince 41, Jordan Silk 36*, Cameron Boyce 2/31) beat Melbourne Renegades 153 for 6 in 20 overs ( Simon Harper 45, Shaun Marsh 40, Daniel Christian 32*, Jackson Bird 2/24, Pope 2/22) by 6 wickets.

With this win, Sydney Sixers move up to 2nd place in the points while Melbourne Renegades have now lost 5 matches in succession.
