Bangladesh stun India by 3 wickets to lift the Under 19 World Cup for first time

bangladesh-under19-iccThanks to an all-round performance, Bangladesh stunned India via DLS method to lift the Under 19 World Cup for the first time in the finals played JB Marks Oval, Potchefstroom on Sunday.

Bangladesh captain Akbar Ali won the toss and decided to field first. It was a brilliant start by Shoriful Islam and Sakib who kept pressure on Indian openers. Divyaansh Saxena struggled with his timing and was dismissed for just 2 by Avishek Das. Yashasvi Jaiswal left the balls away while Tilak Verma also struggled. At the end of 10 overs, India were struggling at 26 for 1.

Jaiswal continued his superb form in this tournament hitting lovely boundaries and reached his fifty off 89 balls. Tilak Verma took some time before taking on Bangladesh bowlers. Tanzid got the breakthrough for Bangladesh dismissing Verma with a good catch by Islam at the boundary. Verma and Jaiswal added 94 runs for the 2nd wicket. The Indian captain Priyam Garg just scored 7 runs. Dhruv Jurel and Jaiswal looked confident to take the match away from Bangladesh but, Islam struck to get rid of Jaiswal for 88. From 156 for 3, the Bangladesh bowlers kept picking wickets at regular intervals and bowled out India for 177 in 47.2 overs. Jurel and Ankolekar were involved in a run-out mix up which resulted in Jurel run out.

Karthik Tyagi, Sushant Mishra could not control the wide balls. Ravi Bishnoi was bought into the attack in the 9th over and after being hit for a six got wicket of Tanzid Hasan. Bangladesh openers added 50 runs. At the end of 10 overs, Bangladesh were 55 for 1.

After the power play overs, Ravi Bishnoi produced the magic to get wickets of Mahmudul, Towhid Hridoy and Shahadat Hossain to leave Bangladesh in trouble at 64 for 4. Parveez Emon went off due to an injury. Sushant Mishra got wickets of Shamim Hossain and Avishek Das to put Bangladesh under pressure at 102 for 6. After returning from an injury, Emon continued struggling with his injury but played for Bangladesh. Jaiswal got the big wicket of Emon for 47. Emon and Akbar added 41 runs for the 7th wicket. Ravi Bishnoi was brilliant with the ball as Akbar Ali and Rakibul played the Indian bowlers well. With the score reading at 163 for 7 in 41 overs rain arrived. After the rain break, Bangladesh needed 7 runs to win off 5 overs and completed the job. Bangladesh won the match by 3 wickets with 23 balls to spare.
