After a year-long postponement due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 is now ready to showcase the remarkable talent and competitive spirit of Asia’s finest athletes across 40 sports disciplines.

India, with a rich history at the Asian Games, is preparing to make its mark with a contingent of 634 athletes participating in 38 diverse sports. Athletics will command the largest representation, with 65 athletes poised to compete.

This significant increase in participation, from the 570 athletes that represented India in 36 sports at the Jakarta 2018 edition, underscores India’s growing influence in the Asian sporting arena.

One of the sports that promises to draw attention is kayaking and canoeing, where India boasts a talented squad. The men’s team includes Sunil Singh Salam, competing in the C1 1000m category, and Hitesh Kewat and Subham Kewat, who will be participating in the men’s slalom kayak events.

The men’s C2- 500m team comprises Ribason Singh Ningthoujam, Gyaneshwor Singh Philem, Arjun Singh, and Niraj Verma. Their skill and teamwork are set to be put to the test on the grand Asian stage.

On the women’s side, India’s representation is equally formidable. Shikha Chouhan is geared up for the women’s slalom kayak event, while Shivani Verma, Megha Pradeep, Kaveri, Neha Devi Leichondam, Binita Chanu Oinam, Parvathy Geeta, Dimita Devi Touam, and Soniya Devi Phairembam form a strong women’s team in various categories, including C2 and K4 500m races.
