Asia Cup and Handshake Controversy:  Pakistan refuse to Play Asia Cup; ACC President Not Happy

The Asia Cup 2025, have already been surrounded with Controversy now, where Men in Blue recently played against Pakistan despite, several section in Indian people didn’t want them to play against Men in Green due to ongoing controversy.

BCCI also faced repercussions, for allowing their team to play against Pakistan despite recent Pahalgam attack, still they managed to play marquee event.

India managed to win that contest quite convincingly, and didn’t shake hands with Pakisani players once the match ended have brought sports in negative limelight.

There are two school of thoughts- where one believes that in ICC clause, teams must shake hands for the sake of sportsmenship whereas the other school of thought suggest saking hands is no where mentioned in ICC rule book.

Also Asian Cricket Council and Pakistan Cricket Board President Mohsin Naqvi stated “This is not right, as it is against the spirit of sportsmanship and we will raise this concern to ICC would want Match Refree, Andy Pycroft to be removed from Asia Cup otherwise Pakistan would not play Asia Cup”

The current developments stated “ICC has rejected the plea from Pakistan Cricket Board, and Andy Bycroft is still part of Asia Cup”

It would be interesting to see whether Pakistan would play in the marquee event, or not as Andy Bycroft is still part of Asia Cup.

Now let’s move towards Handshake controversy and focus on the entire game, have played where Pakistan lack quality in all three departments of the game and lost badly against India.

Pakistan team have won the toss and elected to bat first against India in Dubai, where they lost first two wickets cheapely including the likes of- Saim Ayub who scored no runs and Harris who scored 3 runs and eventually they were in trouble.

However due to limited resistance shown by Sahabzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman they tried to build themselves and score few runs ultimately they got bundled out.

At one end, they scored 49 runs at the loss of 4 wickets at the end of 10 over, quality spin bowling brought Pakistan Batter in doldrums for the first 10 overs, when it comes to next 10 overs, they were looking to salvage their pride, Indian bowling performances have been exceptional, they didn’t let Men in Green batters to make comeback, ultimately Pakistani batters have no answered they were all over the park.

Pakistani batting showed some resistance from brilliant batting from Shahid Afridi and Sufiyan Muqeem where they managed to scored 127 runs at the loss of 9 wickets.

In their entire 20 overs, they played 63 dot which in a way talks about their inefficiencies with the bat also all those talks about playing Modern day cricket completely went to the off radar.

When it comes to India’s batting it was pretty easy, where Opener Abhisekh Sharma, started with the bang by stepping one step and hit Afiridi where he scored 4 on the first followed by six in second ball and ultimately in couple of overs, he compleltly negated Afridi factor.

India too lost 2 wickets on 43 runs, still they played proper cricket,  and made sure complete strike rotations should be done and eventually these two- Tilak and Surya Kumar stitched 50+ runs partnership for 3rd wicket. and eventually less than 30 runs were needed when Ayub strike and took Varma’s wicket.

It was mere formality back then when Shivam Joined Surya in the middle, it was all about strike rotations along with Fours and sixes to make sure India cross the line and registered victory against Arch rivals by 7 wickets.

India played dominating cricket throughout the crux of the game, and literally Pakistani players have no answer.

Eventually India winning this contest,  and Qualified for Super 4, with astounding statement makes things even more capable for them.

Let’s see how well they plays in Super 4 contest it will all start from 21st August 2025 onwards however India would play their last match against Oman on 19th September 2025.

The Asia Cup 2025 is played in T20I format, where the best Asian Teams are up against each other for the Prestigious title.

India being defending Champions, would be looking to win this contest considering they are heavy favorites to win this tournament.

The Asia Cup 2025 is played UAE across- Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with varied conditions, Men in Blue have brilliant memories in UAE where they have recently won Champions Trophy 2025.

Let’s see how India plays and what will happen to these Handshake controversies when these two teams compete against each other for the next time on 21st September 2025, if Pakistan beat UAE.

Team India could only lose this tournament on their own merit otherwise they can’t lose it anyway.

Considering all permutations and combinations, If India plays even 70 percent to their potential, no team could beat them in this tournament and they are hot favorites to win this title.

Men in Blue certainly play modern day cricket and the win against Pakistan is a perfect testament to it.

It would be interesting to see, whether we would see some changes in India’s Playing 11 considering they have already qualified for Super 4.
