This was during Fluminense's Copa Libertadores match against Argentinos Juniors on 1st August
The incident occurred in the 57th minute of the match, when Marcelo attempted to dribble past Sánchez
However, he accidentally stepped on Sánchez's leg, causing the defender to suffer a compound fracture
Sánchez was immediately taken to the hospital, where he underwent surgery and expected to be out for at least six months.
Marcelo was shown a straight red card for the challenge, and he was visibly distraught as he left the field
He later apologized to Sánchez on social media, saying that he "never intended to hurt him."
