Former Pakistan cricketer and commentator Ramiz Raza recently interacted with a youtube channel where he talked about the India-Pakistan series in detail. He stressed that there was no sense in not having the Test series scheduled between India-Pakistan as a part of the World Test Championship.
As both nations have stopped playing against each other in a bilateral series due to political tensions and the only place where they compete is major ICC events.
Raza said that the Test series between Indian and Pakistan will not just revive the longest format of the game but will take the interest of the game to another level.
The inaugural edition of the World Test Championship was introduced after the 2019 cricket world cup to keep the interest of fans alive in cricket’s ultimate format and India and New Zealand will be gearing up on June 18th, 2021 at Southampton to play the final of the inaugural edition of World Test Championship.
The second edition of the World Test Championship will start from July 2021 to 2023.
Ramiz said that since he is a member of MCC so he suggested to all other officials to conduct the entire season of the World Test Championship in three months window where every team will play against each other and no shorter format game will be played by any country in this tenure which will shift the focus of fans towards developing their interest to watch Test cricket.
“The current format was lopsided and prolonged and it made no sense not having India and Pakistan series. Teams didn’t play the same number of matches and even the points system was weird. There should have been a 3-month window and everyone should have played against each other,” said Raja on his Youtube channel Cricket Baaz.
“Next time when the WTC has held no cricket should be held at that time if you want to promote Test cricket and infuse life into it and also attract sponsors to this format. Sponsorship will only come when you will not give sponsors any other option to park their money,” he concluded.
