Tammy Abraham Biography: Tammy Abraham is a professional footballer who plays as a striker for the England national team and the Premier League Club Chelsea. Graduated from the academy of Chelsea, he made his senior debut for the club in the year 2016 but after joining the Chelsea he played for three clubs on loan before making his debut. He spent a successful campaign with the Championship club Bristol City, then played with the Swansea City but the club suffered relegation from the Premier League and then he lastly joined Aston Villa in 2018 and became the first player since 1977 to score 25 goals in a single campaign for the club.

For his national team, he has been a participant since its youth squads for which he has represented in various Under-18 level tournaments as well as Under 21 level tournaments before making his senior debut on 2017 November.

 EARLY LIFE

Tammy was born on 2nd October 1997 in Camberwell, the United Kingdom to Mr. and Mrs. Tamaraebi Bakumo. His father was from Bayelsa State, Nigeria, After his birth, their parents migrated to Britain in search of a better future and a decent lifestyle. Tammy was a drama boy during his childhood at school, but gradually found his interest in football, he joined the club Chelsea Under8 level squad and progressed according to its academy system.

 PERSONAL LIFE

Tammy has a younger brother Timmy who is also a footballer and plays in the academy system at Fulham. During his loan term with the club Bristol City, he met with a motor accident and was summoned to court as a result. He later obtained his license passing the test in March of the same year.

PROFESSIONAL LIFE

After joining Chelsea Tammy due to his playing skills was selected in the squad which not only participated but won the UEFA Youth League and FA Youth Cup. Tammy became the second most goal scorer of the tournament after  Roberto Nune through netting eight goals in nine matches, while during FA Cup he netted the winning goal in the finals against Manchester City in April.

In his following seasons in 2014-15 and 2015-16, his gameplay performance got better. He netted 74 goals in 98 matches while playing for Chelsea’s youth Squad. His youth level performance caught the attention of the interim manager Guus Hiddink who later invited him to train with the senior side of the team. He also gave him chance to play in Premier League matches. Tammy debuted his Premier League match from the senior side of the team on 11th May 2016, against the Liverpool as a replacement of Bertrand Traore in the 74th minute, the match ended in a 1-1 draw. In the following week, Tammy made his home debut as a second-half substitute for Traore in a 1-1 draw with Leicester City.

 

On 5th August 2016, Tammy was signed for Championship club Bristol City on a season loan from Chelsea. He made his debut for the team against the Wigan Athletic in a 2-1 win. While playing his second game for the Bristol City he helped the club to advance them to the Second Round of the EFL Cup through assisting the team to win against the Wycombe Wanderers by 1-0. At the EFL Cup his club sadly got eliminated after losing against Sheffield Wednesday by 3-2, but Tammy due to his gameplay and efforts was honored with the EFL Young Player of the Month award for September. Later as a part of the team, according to his performances he earned for himself the Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year and ended the season with Bristol City with Top Goalscorer Award. He became the first-ever player to earn all three awards in the same season.

On 4th July 2017, Tammy announced a five-year contract with Chelsea and later day joined the club Swansea City on loan. For the club, he played his debut match on 12 August against Southampton in a 0-0 draw. He netted his first goal as a part of the club after ten days of his debut match in a 4-1 win against the club Milton Keynes Dons. Despite a good experience and rich goal-scoring background, Tammy didn’t perform very well for the club, in the 39 appearances he netted only eight goals during his loan spell.

 

After his return from loan at Swansea City, the new Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri planned him to keep him in Chelsea and embed him in the club’s Community Shield squad which defeated Manchester City. Despite the win, he was sent on loan to Aston Villa. Playing for the club Villa he made his debut for the club on 15th September in a 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers, after four days he made his home debut in a 2-0 win over the Rotherham United. On 28th November he netted four goals in a 5-5 draw with Nottingham East. In April 2019 he became the first Villa player to score 25 goals in a season since Andy Gray in 1977. His goal assisted the club to record it’s nine successive match wins in a row. He was named in the PFA Team of the Year. He ended his campaign with 26 goals in 40 appearances.

Finally, after his loan term got expired he returned to Chelsea where he was given the jersey number 9 previously worn by Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Gianluca Vialli, Fernando Torres, Mark Stein, and Hernan Crespo.  He played his debut match as a substitute in the 2019 UEFA Super Cup against Liverpool on 14th August. He netted his first goal in a 5-2 win over Norwich City. He netted his first Chelsea hat-trick at the age of 21 in the latter matches he played for the club. On 2nd October 2019, he netted his first Champions League goal in a 2-1 win against the Club Lille.

Tammy has been the part of its national team since the youth squads he had debuted in it’s under 18,19 and 21 youth squads. After shifting to the senior side of the team he on 2nd November 2017, was one of the three uncapped players who were called up to senior England team for friendlies against Germany and Brazil. He has been also call-up to the England squad for forthcoming Euro 2020 qualifying matches.

CONTROVERSY

On 14th August Tammy while playing his debut match for the club Chelsea was prone to racial abuse on Twitter after he took the deciding penalty in the shootout but his shot was saved by Adrian resulting in Chelsea lose in 5-4.
