The dynamic duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty (Satwik-Chirag) have clinched the Thailand Open 2024 Men’s Doubles title. They defeated the unseeded Chinese pair of Chen Bo Yang and Liu Yi in straight games. This victory marks their second title win of the year and further solidifies their position as one of the top contenders to win the gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024.
The match started with a close fight. Though the top-seeded Indians faced a strong challenge from the Chinese team in the first half of the opening game, they never lost sight of their goal. A crucial point came when Chirag’s successful review overturned a call, giving India a narrow 12-11 lead at the mid-game interval. This momentum shift proved pivotal. Satwik and Chirag, known for their aggressive style of play, capitalized on the advantage and raced to a comfortable 21-15 win in the first game.

The second game unfolded with a similar pattern. Satwik and Chirag, also known as the “Sat-Chi” duo by their fans, maintained control for most of the game. They entered the mid-game interval with a comfortable 5-point lead. However, a slight wobble saw Chirag struggle with his balance, leading to a few errors by the Indian pair. This lapse in concentration gave the Chinese a glimmer of hope, as they narrowed the gap to 15-14.
