Oman and West Indies have been eliminated from the Super Six stage of the World Cup qualifiers after failing to win any of their matches. Oman lost four consecutive matches to Scotland, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and the Netherlands. While on the other hand, West Indies lost their three matches to Zimbabwe, the Netherlands, and Scotland.
There are a number of reasons why Oman and West Indies were eliminated:
- Inconsistent batting: Both teams have struggled to score runs consistently. Oman team has hardly scored runs more than 250 and lost their matches by huge margins in the world cup qualifiers games. Whereas West Indies have faced difficulties in chasing down big targets.
- Ineffective bowling: Both teams have also struggled to take wickets consistently. The Oman team has failed to take early wickets in their three matches, while West Indies have only taken down wickets when the match has gone out of their control.
- Poor fielding: Both teams have also made a number of fielding errors. Oman has dropped some catches in their three matches, while West Indies have dropped six catches in their three matches.\
In addition to these factors, Oman and West Indies have also been affected by injuries. Oman has been without their captain Zeeshan Maqsood for most of the qualifiers, while West Indies have been without a few of their star all-rounder players.
The elimination of Oman and West Indies is a major disappointment for both teams. Oman was hoping to qualify for their first World Cup, while West Indies were hoping to make amends for their failure to qualify for the ODI World Cup.
However, both teams can take heart from the fact that they have shown flashes of promise in the qualifiers. Oman beat Ireland and the United Arab Emirates in the first round, while West Indies beat the United States and Nepal.
If Oman and the West Indies can address their weaknesses and continue to improve, they will be in a good position to qualify for future World Cups.
