Summer Olympics 2024 : The IOC session at Lausanne on June 2017 had done something heretofore unheard of – the executive board had greenlit the idea of electing two host cities for two consecutive Olympic years. When the California bid leader Wasserman had implied his larger interest in 2028, the buzz all but confirmed LA being awarded 2028 host status, hence 2024 should likely fall in Paris’ hands as the only contender left.
The common thread for all these major withdrawals were budgetary concerns – owning much to the notoriety of Olympic games to have cost overrun risks, but also, and more importantly, the borderline ridiculous demands the IOC had made to the host contenders. But that debacle is perhaps not quite the subject for this article. At any rate, with the 103rd session, IOC has effectively put the nail on a decade’s worth of contention and contemplation regarding Olympic hosts.
Paris ready to host Summer Olympic Games 2024
Summer Olympics 2024 : With a comparatively modest budget of $6.6 million, Paris will be on the lookout, cautious about cost-ballooning, a phenomenon invariably identified with the pre-Olympics months – one that saw its peak with the 2008 Beijing case, where the final cost was ten times the projected estimation.
Like Tokyo 2020, wrestling as a category has a confirmed inclusion for Paris 2024. A further diversification of weight classes in Graeco-roman wrestling has been proposed by the United World Wrestling in an attempt to liquidate the category and fit in more contestants and events. The 2007 proposed model continues, with 3 additional sports to be selected in the near future, along with 25 mainstay sports.
Another important point to ponder over will be eSports. In an attempt to draw in a relatively modish niche audience, the Paris committee has held several exchanges regarding the possibility of introducing eSports to Olympics. It is too early to either confirm or dismiss the idea thoroughly, but it is only a natural corollary of the age that we should see eSports receive the prominence of traditional athletic sports.
Paris will be the ground of the Olympic heroics and festivities for the third time, already having hosted in 1900 and 1924, a record held only by London other than Paris. Other than Paris proper, events will also be held, as expected, in the surrounding suburbs of Nanterre, Versailles, and Vaires-Sur-Marne.
Summer Olympics 2024 : Additionally, the usual water sports will take place on the coasts of Marseille (sailing – 5000 capacity), Beatriz (surfing – 5000 capacity), and Vaires-Sur-Marne (rowing, kayak, canoe slalom- 22000 capacity).
Saint-Denis has been appointed as the Olympic village, while the beautiful expanses of Le Bourget is rumoredareo be assigned the media village and press-cum-broadcasting hub.
Paris Summer Olympics 2024 Listings and Venues
Here are the Grand Paris Zone listings :
- Stade de France (78,000 capacity) is where the opening and closing ceremonies will take place. It will also host the athletics.
- Saint-Denis, while also hugging the Olympic village, will be the place for five aquatic events: swimming, synchronized swimming, modern pentathlon swimming (15,000 capacity), water polo, and diving (5000 capacity).
- Paris la defense Arena (17000 capacity) will host artistic gymnastics, trampoline events, and the semifinal and medal events for handball.
- The recently renovated Stade Olympique Yves-du-Manoir has two courts (10000 and 5000 capacity) for field hockey.
- Le Zenith (6000 capacity) will be the place for rhythmic gymnastics and the preliminary and quarterfinal stages for Handball.
- Fencing events and women’s Basketball preliminaries will be held in Palais des Sports Marcel-Cerdan (4000 capacity), while the 3×3 Basketball fixtures will take place in Palais des Sports Maurice Thorez (also 4000 capacity).
- Le Bourget (3000 capacity), the media village, will also be the venue for shooting events.
The Paris Center zone will host the most number of events in its many venues.
- Parc des Princes (65000 capacity) will be the venue for the football quarterfinals and finals, as well as four preliminaries.
- Stade Roland Garros will separately host three major events : Outdoor tennis preliminaries, more tennis in the Court Philippe Chatrier (15000 capacity) that is complete with a retractable roof, as well as the volleyball playoffs, while Court Suzanne Lenglen (10000 capacity), with its temporary roof, will be holding the boxing events.
- Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy (15000 capacity) will be the place for the main Basketball games, the basketball preliminaries, Judo, and Wrestling.
- Stade Jean-Bouin (20000 capacity) will be the place for the Rugby games.
- Stade Sebastien Charlety (2000 capacity) has been proposed to host either basketball or softball events.

- The Seine has been arranged as a venue (3000 seats and an estimated total of 13000 capacity) for the triathlon, racewalking, and marathon events (excluding finishes), as well as the swimming marathon.
- Paris Expo Porte de Versailles (6000 capacity) has been the place arranged to host table tennis and climbing events.
- The road cycling and skateboarding will be held in Champs Elysees (20000 capacity). It will also be the finishing spot for the triathlon, marathon and racewalking events.
- Grand Palais (8000 capacity) will see some fencing and taekwondo action.
- Volleyball preliminaries and karate events will be held in the Halle Georges Carpentier (8000 capacity).
- Another set of volleyball preliminaries will take place in Stade Pierre de Coubertin (5000 capacity).
- Les Invalides (6000 capacity)will host the archery events.

The renowned city of Versailles will also be a major venue.
- The historic Chateau de Versailles (about 80000 capacity) will be the venue for all modern pentathlon events except for swimming and fencing, as well as the three equestrian events: dressage, jumping, and cross-country.
- The Olympics golf event will be held in the 18-hole Albatross course at Le Golf National (35000 capacity).
- The mountain biking event will take place in Elancourt Hill.
- Velodrome de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (10000 capacity) will host track cycling along with both freestyling and racing BMX events.
