Australia defeated India in a last-ball thriller, winning the first of the two-match T-20 series by seven wickets and lead the series 1-0 on Sunday. Australia made a mess of what could have been a walk-in-the park chase in the first T-20 match, eventually winning the match, with Cummins completing two runs needed of the final ball of the match.
India’s speedster Umesh Yadav couldn’t make a huge impression being offered a chance in the white- ball cricket after a while as the right-handed seamer failed to defend 14 runs off the final over in a bid to help India romp home in the first T-20 at Vishakhapatnam.
Earlier, India showcased one of the worst performances in the T-20’s as their vulnerability in the middle order was once again on display as they managed to score only 126 runs in 20 overs, with KL Rahul being the only light in the darkness, who scored an impressive comeback innings of 50 off 36 deliveries.
While, batsmen such as Dinesh, Karthik, Rishabh Pant and Krunal Pandya couldn’t make use of the opportunity given to them, MS Dhoni’s slow innings of 29 off 37 deliveries also received a host of criticism, with critics pointing out his fading power-hitting ability in every subsequent match.
MS Dhoni came into bat at in the second half of the innings following Rishabh Pant’s dismissal with the scoreboard showing 80 for 3 after 10. With India’s skipper and vice-captain made their way into the pavilion inside 10 overs, India once again saw a collapse which saw India fall from 80 for 3 to 109 for 7 inside seven overs only to leave Dhoni alone with the Taile.
Dhoni though managed to bat till the very end, however, wasn’t able to find the fence in not more than a single occasion, as the former skipper could only hit one six in his lacklustre innings of 29 runs off 37 deliveries. And being the only recognized batsman after 15 overs, he refused to take the singles with Chahal and Umesh on the other side.
