Man of the series or tournament remains the best individual honor for a player’s performance in a particular league. In the Indian Premier League, the laurel goes by the name of Most Valuable Player as the “Man of the series” award was renamed after the 2013 season.

Throughout the 15 years of IPL we have witnessed some extra-ordinary moments and the MVP’s have certainly made it more exciting. IPL’s unpredictability and cut throat competition has seen no one get the award more than Twice. In fact, only 2 players in the history of the league have been able to win IPL MVP award twice i.e Sunil Narine and Andre Russell.

One must wonder how are the candidates decided for the MVP award and in this feature we will discuss how the points are awarded to the player.

• IPL uses one of its kind rating system which helps the players win points through fours, sixes, wickets, dot balls, catches and stumpings.
• All of it contains points. Every time that a Batter his a Sixer he will earn 3.5 points while during a Four he will get 2.5 points. At the time of a catch and stumping, 2.5 points will be awarded. A bowler on the other hand for every dot ball will get a point.
• The player with most points will get the MVP award.
