Jafar Jamal Brilliant Inning Goes in Vain as Trichy Lost Against Nellai

Jafar Jamal

Ba11sy Trichy’s hopes of a maiden win in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2023 were dashed on Wednesday as they lost to Nellai Royal Kings by 8 wickets (DLS method) in their final league match.

Jafar Jamal scored a brilliant 96 off 53 balls for Trichy, but his efforts were not enough as the Royals chased down the target of 134 with ease in 11.5 overs.

Jamal’s innings was a masterclass in stroke play, as he hit 6 fours and 8 sixes. He was particularly impressive against the spinners, hitting them for 63 runs off 25 balls.

However, the rest of the Trichy batsmen failed to contribute as they were bowled out for 146 in 19 overs. M Poiyamozhi was the pick of the bowlers for the Royals, taking 2 wickets for 35 runs.

In reply, the Royals got off to a flying start, with Arun Karthik and L Suryapprakash putting on 20 runs for the first wicket. G Ajitesh then took over, scoring 56 off 29 balls with the help of 5 fours and 4 sixes to lead the Royals to victory.

The win means that the Royals have finished third in the table, while Trichy has ended the season with zero wins.

Aftermath of the Match

After the match, Jafar Jamal was disappointed with the result, but he was proud of his own performance.

“I am happy with my individual performance, but I am disappointed that we lost the match,” said Jamal. “We had a good start, but we lost too many wickets in the middle overs. We need to work on our batting if we want to win matches in the future,” he added.

The Royals captain, Arun Karthik, was pleased with his team’s performance. He said, “We played really well today, We bowled well and we batted well. We are very happy with the result and we are looking forward to the playoffs.”

The TNPL 2023 playoffs will begin on July 8. The Royals will face the fourth-placed team in the first eliminator, while the first and second-placed teams will have a bye.
