IPL 2023 : Tilak Varma remains open to bat anywhere in the batting order! Should BCCI reward him with a spot?

Tilak Varma has proven to be one of the Mumbai Indians’ go-to bats in crunch time in just his second season. Even though the five-time winners had a disappointing IPL season in 2022, the left-hander’s debut was undoubtedly the only bright spot. Varma amassed close to 400 runs in his first IPL season and left an indelible impression on everyone with his hitting.

Varma has played pivotal roles in four of the five games he has played so far in the 2023 season, including a critical 17-ball 37 in Mumbai’s most recent victory over Hyderabad on Tuesday (April 18), a 14-run victory. Despite having a brilliant IPL debut and the potential to be a reliable number three, Varma has primarily been employed as a floater in the middle order. But he doesn’t seem the least bit bothered by it.

In his very short career in the IPL, the youngster has smacked some memorable knocks. One of his best inning came against SRH at Hyderabad which is also his home ground. He played out a crucial quickfire 37 off 17 balls to consolidate Mumbai’s position in the middle overs.

“It’s always a dream to play at your home ground. To play, do well and then see your team win makes it all the more sweeter. I was very excited on the eve of the game and couldn’t really sleep well due to the nervousness. I’ve grown up playing here all these years and I’m glad that all the preparations came off well for me.” – said Tilak Verma.

One of the best attribute of his game play is his Versatility. The 20-year-old himself expressed his openness to feature anywhere in the batting line-up. He also revealed that the MI management is also confident enough to let him enjoy his game and role.

“I’m always comfortable playing in any situation and have developed my game accordingly. I’ve also told the management that I can bat anywhere. They are also confident of me and send me to bat in different situations. I’m confident of batting anywhere.” – said Tilak Varma.
