The Surrey Jaguars have qualified for the final of the Global T20 Canada after defeating the Vancouver Knights by 5 wickets in Qualifier 1 on Friday. The Jaguars, who finished top of the league stage, will now face the winner of Qualifier 2 in the final on Sunday.
The Knights, who finished second in the league stage, were favourites to win Qualifier 1 but they were undone by a brilliant all-round performance from the Jaguars. Captain top-scored for the Jaguars with 26 runs, while Ayaan Khan and Litton Das both made useful contributions.
The Knights’ bowlers struggled to contain the Jaguars’ batsmen, with only Junaid Siddiqui picking up four wickets, which eventually went in vain. In reply, the Knights got off to a good start but they lost wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for 101 runs in just 16.4 overs.
Junaid Siddique was the pick of the bowlers for the Jaguars, taking 3 wickets for 29 runs. The Jaguars will now be looking to win their first GT20 Canada title. They have been one of the most consistent teams in the tournament this year and they have a good balance of batting and bowling.
The winner of Qualifier 2 will face the Jaguars in the final. The Montreal Tigers and Vancouver Knights will lock horns in Qualifier 2 on Saturday. The Tigers finished third in the league stage, while the Knights finished second.
The Tigers will be looking to avenge their defeat to the Knights in the league stage. They have a good batting line-up, led by Chris Gayle and Andre Russel. The Knights will be hoping that their bowlers can restrict the Tigers’ batsmen and give their own batsmen a chance to post a big score.
Winner of Qualifier 2 will face the Surrey Jaguars in the final on Sunday. The final of the Global T20 Canada will be played at the CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario on July 6.
