George Dockrell

Cricket player George Dockrell was born in Ireland on July 22, 1992. Dockrell, a slow left-arm orthodox spinner and right-handed batter for Ireland in international cricket, started his journey of cricket at the Leinster Cricket Club in Dublin. George Dockrell graduated from Gonzaga College in Dublin in the class of 2010.

George Henry Dockrell was one of nineteen players who received a central contract with Cricket Ireland in the month of December of the year 2018 for the 2019 campaign. Early career

Dockrell has played for Ireland from the U-13 level. Dockrell was a member of the 2009 U-19 Cricket World Cup Qualifying team. Ireland’s participation in the 2010 U-19 Cricket World Cup was made possible by winning this competition, and Dockrell made his Youth One Day International debut there against South Africa U-19s. In the competition, Dockrell participated in three additional Youth One Day Internationals.

2008 marked Dockrell’s international debut for Ireland A. George Henry Dockrell received an invitation to coaching sessions with Somerset County Cricket Club in the same year.

Domestic and T20 career

Since George Henry Dockrell was 15 years old, Dockrell has drawn interest from Somerset County Cricket Club. On July 18, 2010, news broke that Somerset had extended a two-year deal to Dockrell. In the latter part of the 2010 campaign, Dockrell’s availability for Somerset was constrained by his commitment to Ireland’s internationals in the Intercontinental Cup.

Dockrell sustained a dislocated shoulder while competing. George Henry Dockrell had to miss much of his debut season with Somerset due to the recovery process. Although George Henry Dockrell appeared in several limited overs games, including the Champions Trophy and Twenty20 Cup semifinals, he only appeared in one County Championship game.

To take on England in Dubai in January 2012, a team comprised of some of the top players from Associate and Affiliate teams was put together. The three-day game served as a part of England’s training for a series they would play later that month against Pakistan. Four Irish players, including Dockrell, were selected for the 12-man team.

Murali Kartik, a fellow left-arm spinner, left Somerset at the end of the season, giving Dockrell a chance to make a name for himself. Dockrell contributed to Somerset’s six-wicket victory in their inaugural County Championship match of 2012 by taking 6/27 against Middlesex in the second innings.

At the conclusion of the 2015 campaign, Somerset let go of Dockrell.

With 231 runs scored and 10 wickets taken during the 2018 Inter-Provincial Cup, Dockrell led all scorers and wicket-takers. At the annual Cricket Ireland Awards in November 2018, he was named the Men’s Inter-Provincial Player of the Year.

George Henry Dockrell was chosen to represent the Dublin Chiefs in the inaugural Euro T20 Slam cricket competition in July 2019. 

With a score of 100 not out against the Northern Knights on May 4, 2021, Dockrell recorded his first century in List A cricket.

International Career

Due to retirement and injuries, Ireland’s two experienced spinners, Kyle McCallan and Regan, from the national cricket team West, were lost in the year of 2010. Young spinners Dockrell and Gary Kidd were chosen for the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier and the 2010 Quadrangular Twenty20 Series in Sri Lanka. In the 2010 Quadrangular Twenty20 Series, Dockrell made his senior Ireland squad debut, recording 2/11 against Afghanistan.

As the youngest player in the competition, George Henry Dockrell earned a spot on the Ireland team for the 2010 ICC World Twenty20. Due to a Biology exam, Dockrell was unable to attend Ireland’s One Day International (ODI) match against Australia on June 17, of the year 2010.

Australia hosted the Under-19 World Cup in the year 2012, and George Henry Dockrell was chosen for Ireland’s 15-man team for that year’s Cricket World Cup. In the year 2019, Henry Dockrell made his Test debut against Afghanistan. Dockrell was named in Ireland’s squad for the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier tournament in the United Arab Emirates.

In February 2021, Dockrell was named as the captain of the Ireland Wolves’ squad for their red-ball matches against Bangladesh but opted out of the tour. Dockrell was selected for Ireland’s preliminary team for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the month of September of the year 2021.
