ENG vs AUS: Australia becomes the only team to achieve this record for 2nd time

ENG VS AUS 2nd ODI: Alex Carey’s blistering inning of 67-ball 74 runs and the superb performance of the bowlers led by Michel Starc helped Australia to beat England by 68 runs in the second ODI match. This win records their 14th consecutive win in the ODI format. Australia is the only team that has achieved this feat for the second time. 

While batting first in the ENG vs AUS 2nd ODI, Australia scored a challenging score of 270 runs in 44.4 overs. Chasing the target of 271 runs the England team was reduced to 202 runs in 40.2 overs. This win handed Australia a 2–0 lead in a 5-match ODI series. Alex Carey was named Player of the Match for his splendid inning.

Australia becomes the only team to win 14 consecutive ODI matches. Earlier in 2003, Australia won 21 consecutive ODI matches.

AUS vs ENG 2nd ODI: England chose to bowl

England won the toss and invited Australia to bat first. The Kangaroos did not start well and at one time its team was struggling to reach 200 runs. Captain Mitchell Marsh (60 runs in 59 balls) was the only batsman in the top order to score a half-century.

Travis Head, who played a key role in winning Australia by 7 wickets, playing an unbeaten 154-run inning in the first ODI, became the first victim of fast bowler Brydon Carse. Carse scalped 3 wickets while conceding 75 runs.

Smith, Labuchagne, Maxwell Flop

Second opener Matthew Short contributed just 29 runs. Among other batsmen, Steve Smith was out for 4, Marnus Labuschange for 19 and Glenn Maxwell for 7. Although Carey did not let Australia fans down, he hit 8 fours and 3 sixes in his inning and scored 74 runs off just 67 balls.

Mitchell Starc’s bowling brilliance

The England team initially collapsed with Phil Salt scoring 12 runs, and Ben Duckett 32 runs. Captain Harry Brook also failed to score some runs and was out on 4 runs. Will Jacks gone for a golden duck. However, Jamie Smith held one end and was the top-scorer for the team with 49 runs. Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc took 3 wickets conceding 50 runs, beside him Josh Hazlewood scalped 3 wickets, and Aaron Hardie and Matthew Short took one wicket each.
