Did ICC make a blunder? Two matches can be played within 24 hours in T20 World Cup

ICC Men T20 World Cup Trophy

The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will be played jointly between the West Indies and the United States from 2nd June to 29th June. The semi-final matches are scheduled to be played on 26th June and 27th June in Trinidad and Guyana. The Final match will be played in Barbados on 29th June.

Now, fans are pointing out a big mistake by ICC in making the schedule of the tournament, due to which the team playing the final may have to suffer a loss.

The team playing the second semi-final will face issues

There is a gap of only one day between the second semi-final and final match of T20 World Cup 2024. If the second semi-final match is played on a reserve day due to weather or any other reason, then one of the teams playing the final will have to play the match in less than 24 hours.

The winning team of the second semi-final will have to go from Guyana to Barbados, which is about 900 km away from each other. Team India may play in the second semi-final. According to the report of Cricbuzz, if the Indian team qualifies in the top-4, then it can play the second semi-final on June 27.

Controversies are taking place regarding reserve day

It is hot in the Caribbean countries in June, due to which there is a high probability of rain. Due to this ICC and Cricket West Indies have set reserve days for the semi-finals and final.

During the meeting, it was confirmed that reserve days will be set for the semi-finals and final in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The ICC mentioned it in a media release after the board meeting in March. But now controversies have started regarding Reserve Day.

Fans are asking if it is fair for the team who is playing in the 2nd semi-final as whoever will win the 2nd semi-final, won’t get proper rest before the final match.

The winner of the 2nd semi-final will travel 900 km for the final match and if rain interrupts the match on 27th June then the semifinal will happen on 28 June and the winner will have to travel immediately as they will have to play the final match the next day.

Two days gap is a standard format

In some previous ICC events, a gap of two days was kept between the second semi-final and the final. The second semi-final in the ODI World Cup 2023 was between South Africa and Australia on 16 November. The final match was held on 19 November.
