This victory is not about taking a 2-0 lead in the series; It’s about Rohit giving a performance worthy of a standing ovation. With this win, he joins legendary wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni at the end of India’s T20I captaincy, with both having an impressive record of 41 wins. Dhoni holds this record in 72 matches and Rohit did it in just 53 matches.

MS Dhoni’s tenure as a captain is synonymous with dominance. His determination and skill led to India winning the coveted T20 World Cup trophy in 2007. Now, Rohit, a formidable batsman and captain, has challenged himself as a leader in performance and proved that leadership comes in many forms and all are equal.

This T20I series has a special significance for Rohit Sharma. This marked his much-anticipated return to T20I International after a 14-month absence. Rohit’s return to T20I series against Afghanistan marked his 150th game and he is the first men’s cricketer to do so.

Though his bat did not contribute much in the match, the Indian batsman’s best strategy was on full display. He relied on young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal to open the innings; A bold move, it immediately paid off. Jaiswal unleashed the fury and set the tone for the chase by scoring a brisk 68 off just 34 balls.

Rohit’s decision to promote Shivam Dube also proved beneficial. The all-rounder, known for his explosive streak, smashed an incredible knock of 63 off 32 balls to see India cross the finish line with relative ease. While Virat Kohli, playing his first T20I since November 2022, failed to deliver a big performance, but scored a moderate 29 off just 16 balls.

But beneath the personal performance, it is clear that the leader’s hand is steering the ship. Rohit’s work ethic was excellent, his bowling changes were timely and his calm demeanor even during tense moments helped the team remain calm and confident.

Rohit Sharma’s journey as a cricketer is proving to be his most successful journey. From a talented teenager to a great leader, he conquered every sport and silenced his critics with his performances.

Today, MS Dhoni’s achievements stand as a captain following a tradition that would have seemed unthinkable a few years ago. As he takes India through the world of cricket, we are sure that the records will continue to witness Rohit’s magic not only with the bat but also with his leadership.
