Avneet Kaur Sidhu is an Indian sports shooter who was born on October 30, of the year 1981, in Bathinda. Together with Tejaswini Sawant, Sidhu won the gold medal in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle (Pairs) event at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Avneet Kaur Sidhu earned an Olympic quota for India in the 49th World Shooting Championship in Zagreb (Croatia) in the month of August of the year 2006, being the sixth sportsperson (shooting) of the nation to do so. The Olympic Games will be held in Beijing, China, in the year 2008. Avneet Kaur Sidhu has a large list of accomplishments, but the three significant ones are a bronze medal she won at the 15th Asian Games in Doha (Qatar) in the year 2006, a bronze at the 11th Asian Shooting Championship in Kuwait, and a gold medal at the AISL Australia Cup II in Sydney in March of the year 2008. Speaking to The Tribune, the delighted shooter said that Avneet Kaur Sidhu had earned numerous silver and bronze medals in addition to more than a dozen gold medals from the different international and national tournaments she had taken part in. Avneet Kaur has also competed for India in 12 World Cups. In the 2006 World Championship, Avneet Kaur placed third with a score of 397 out of 400, earning India’s Olympic quota spot. The first woman shooter from Punjab to represent India at the Olympic Games in Beijing in the year 2008, Avneet Kaur also became the first shooter from Punjab to win medals at the Commonwealth and Asian Games. Avneet Kaur received the Punjab State Award, and on August 29, 2008, President Mrs. Pratibha Patil presented Avneet Kaur with the prestegious Arjuna Award.

Life and Career

Avneet Kaur Sidhu, who was born in the yer 1981, attended Bathinda’s St. Joseph’s Convent School for her formal education. She began her profession in shooting in the year 2001 while attending Dasmesh Girls’ College in Badal. In just six years, she rose to the top and won gold and silver medals at the 18th Commonwealth Games, which were held in Melbourne (Australia), wowing everyone with her talent. In the year 2001, Avneet Kaur Sidhu began her career in shooting while pursuing a Bachelor of Computer Applications at Dasmesh Girls College in Badal, S. Parkash Singh Badal’s hometown. In the year 2005, Avneet Kaur earned a master’s degree in English literature. In a variety of national and international competitions, Avneet Kaur has earned almost 60 medals. In Air India, she was an assistant manager. The Punjab government has chosen to honor famed shooter Avneet Kaur Sidhu of Bathinda by offering the position of deputy superintendent of police (DSP). This is done in recognition of the fame that Avneet Kaur has given to her own state.
