Two balls to Alastair Cook and a WhatsApp forward from Ben Stokes earned him Test debut vs India
Bashir made his first-class debut for Somerset against Essex in an English County Championship game a month ago.
Despite a lacklustre performance in his first few games, Bashir did not need to do alot to impress England captain Ben Stokes and earn a spot in the national team.
His debut in the County Championship impressed Stokes. Somerset's X account shared a video of Bashir bowling against Alastair Cook
Alastair Cook, a superb spinner, was beaten twice in the over by Bashir, which was all Ben Stokes needed to see to assist the youngster make his way into the national squad.
When Stokes saw the clip, he immediately forwarded it to a WhatsApp group that included head coach Brendon McCullum and ECB managing director Rob Andrew.
Strokes remarked that the height from which Bashir bowled made it clear that he put a lot of action and revolutions on the ball, and that this might be quite effective against India.
All of this has resulted in Bashir's maiden test call that too against Team India.
