The Indian men's and women's football teams have been granted permission to participate in the 2023 Asian Games.
The decision was made by the Sports Ministry after numerous consultations.
The teams were initially denied permission to participate because they were not ranked among the top eight teams in Asia.
However, the Sports Ministry decided to relax the rules after considering the requests of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
The Indian men's team is currently ranked 18th in Asia
while the women's team is ranked 11th.
The 2023 Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8
The Indian teams will be hoping to make a strong impression at the Games and improve their rankings
