Lionel Messi gets nominated for UEFA Player of the year award

Lionel Messi has been nominated for the 2022/23 UEFA Men's Player of the Year award.

He is joined by Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne in the top three nominees.

Messi had a stellar season with Paris Saint-Germain, scoring 30 goals and providing 19 assists in all competitions.

He also helped PSG win the Ligue 1 title and reach the Champions League semi-finals.

Haaland had a similarly impressive season with Borussia Dortmund, scoring 29 goals in 29 Bundesliga appearances

He also scored eight goals in the Champions League, helping Dortmund reach the quarter-finals.

De Bruyne was also in fine form for Manchester City, scoring 20 goals and providing 18 assists in all competitions.
