LeBron James passes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for most points scored in NBA history.
James needed 36 points to break the record, and he got them in the third quarter of the Lakers' game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
He sank a 21-foot turnaround jumper with 10.9 seconds left in the quarter to give him 38 points for the game and 38,388 for his career.
The game was stopped for a brief ceremony to celebrate James' accomplishment.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver presented James with the game ball, and Abdul-Jabbar congratulated him on the achievement.
James is now the all-time leading scorer in NBA history, with 38,388 points.
He is also the fourth player in NBA history to reach 38,000 points, joining Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, and Kobe Bryant.
James' accomplishment is even more impressive considering that he has played in 19 seasons, compared to Abdul-Jabbar's 20 seasons.
