Kane Williamson Scores 31st Test Century, Equals Steve Smith Tally

New Zealand's captain, Kane Williamson, scored a century on Tuesday against South Africa and became the joint second-fastest to reach 31 Test tons.

Williamson now shares the record with Australian test legend Steven Smith of being the second-fastest to reach 31 test centuries in 170 innings.

Only Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was quicker than them, who took 165 innings to score his 31st Test century.

Williamson becomes the fifth New Zealand batter to score twin centuries in a Test. The others are Glenn Turner, Geoff Howarth, Andrew Jones and Peter Fulton.

He achieved this feat in the opening Test against South Africa at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui by scoring back-to-back centuries in both innings.

Williamson is enjoying his red-hot form, and currently he is also ranked as the No. 1 Test batter in the world.

Williamson also moved up to fourth on the list of active players with the most centuries in international cricket. Led by Virat Kohli at 80, Williamson and Smith have 44 each, behind David Warner's 49 and Joe Root and Rohit Sharma's 46.
