India's AFC Champions League Dream Over for Now

India will no longer have a direct entry into the AFC Champions League, Asia's top-tier club competition, starting from the 2024-2025 season

This is due to the Asian Football Confederation's (AFC) decision to revamp the competition and introduce a new format.

Under the new format, the AFC Champions League will be expanded from 32 to 40 teams.

The top 12 teams in the AFC rankings will be given direct entry into group stage, while remaining  will compete in qualification rounds.

India is currently ranked 16th in the AFC rankings, which means that it will no longer be eligible for a direct entry into the group stage

However, Indian clubs will still be able to qualify for the AFC Champions League through the qualification rounds.

The loss of India's direct spot in the AFC Champions League is a blow to the country's football development.
