AIFF likely to stick with home-and-away format for I-League 2023-24

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is likely to persist with the home-and-away format for the I-League 2023-24 season.

This is due to the fact that only two new teams have been approved to participate in the league, bringing the total number of teams to 13.

The AIFF had earlier proposed to change the format of the I-League to a two-conference system, with each conference having six teams.

However, this proposal was dropped due to the limited number of teams participating in the league.

The home-and-away format is the most traditional format of football league competition. It is also the most cost-effective format.

The AIFF is also considering introducing a playoff system for the I-League 2023-24 season.

This would involve the top four teams at the end of the regular season competing in a playoff to determine the champion.

The decision on the format of the I-League 2023-24 season will be taken by the AIFF in the coming weeks.
