“Surya will rise again” is what exactly former Indian All-rounder and 2011 World cup winner Yuvraj Singh had to say about India’s explosive middle-order batsman Surya Kumar Yadav. The Mumbai born batter experienced an extremely rough patch during the recently concluded 3-match ODI series against Australia.
The 32-year-old had a series to forget as he could not even score a single run in all 3 ODIs. He also achieved an unwanted record – 3 International golden ducks in a row. His performance did not do justice to his stature but after a terrific run in T20Is, maybe a humbling to Surya was needed.

He hasn’t been very impressive in the 2nd longest format off late. In his last 11 ODI innings, Surya has scored 110 runs with his last three innings ending on consecutive Golden ducks. He will have to regain his form and play better in order to resolve India’s middle-order woes.

With the 50-over world cup on the horizon, Surya’s form will be very crucial. While many former players have slammed Surya for his technique and batting style, former World cup winner with India, Yuvraj Singh took to twitter to lay his support to Surya.

Team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid also backed Surya Kumar through his purple patch and said that even though he has been a great player in the shortest format, he still needs time to adapt and experience 50-over cricket a little bit more before scoring big runs.

His captain Rohit Sharma also said that Surya should not be criticized just now as he faced only 3 balls in the series and needs more time – “He only played three balls in three this series. I don’t know how much to look into it. He got three good balls, to be honest.”
