Unfortunate Jonny Bairstow Could Not Complete his Century

Jonny Bairstow

Jonny Bairstow was denied a century by just one run as England were all out for 592 on the third day of the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford. Bairstow was in scintillating form, he smashed 99 not out from just 81 balls, hitting 10 fours and 4 sixes. He was looking set to reach his century but unfortunately, James Anderson was dismissed by Cameron Green.

The dismissal was a cruel blow for Bairstow, who had played a key role in England’s dominant batting performance. He shared a key partnership with Ben Stokes, who gathered 51 off 71. England’s total of 592 gave them a commanding 275-run lead over Australia, who were 32-1 at the end of the day.

Bairstow’s innings was a continuation of his fine form in the Ashes series. He has scored some major runs in four Tests against Australia in the Ashes 2023. His inning was also a sign of the new attacking approach that England have adopted under new coach Brendon McCullum. Bairstow was ruthless in his approach, taking on the Australian bowlers from the outset.

Jonny was particularly impressive against the short ball, pulling and hooking with power and precision. He also showed his ability to rotate the strike, scoring runs from big shots. Bairstow’s innings was a joy to watch and it will give England confidence that they can level the Ashes series in the final Test at The Oval.

Australia is now 113 for 4. Marcus Labuschagne and Mitchell Marsh are on the crease. England is now in a strong position to win the fourth Test and level the series. They will need to continue to bat aggressively in the fifth Test, and they will also need to take early wickets with the ball.

If England can do both of these things, they will be in a good position to win the Ashes for the first time since 2011.
