Given the caliber of cricket on display, the Indian Premier League is unquestionably regarded as one of the greatest cricket leagues in the world.

Numerous elite athletes from around the globe compete for the coveted title in different teams.

The Top 5 Lowest Scores Ever Defended in the IPL will be revealed in this article and shared in the format below:

5. Mumbai Indians vs Pune Warriors India (120 runs  defended by Mumbai) in 2012 :

The Mumbai Indians, who batted first in this match, were only able to score 120 runs in their allotted 20 overs at a cost of nine wickets.

Tendulkar scored 34 runs off of 35 balls, making him the Indians’ top scorer. In retrospect, Mumbai’s batters lack an answer for the bowlers of the Pune Warriors, such as Ashish Nehra and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

They both took two wickets each to keep the Mumbai Batters in check. The Pune Warriors appeared to have an easy target, but they were unable to meet it because they were losing wickets frequently.

The magic occurred on the second ball of the 19th over, when Pune needed to score 15 runs from 10 balls after losing the sixth wicket for 105 runs.

Ultimately they needed 15 runs to win from 10 balls but Indians defended that score eventually they won the game by 1 run.

Looking back, Bhuvneshwar took three wickets. Amit Mishra, who was named player of the match for his outstanding all-around performance in which he took four wickets for 19 runs and scored 30 runs from 24 balls, deserves praise because Pune Warriors India batted very poorly.

Eventually they were 11 runs short in chase.

3. Kings X1 Punjab vs Mumbai Indians(119 runs defended by Punjab against Mumbai in the year 2009) :

Kings x1 Punjab scored 119 runs at the loss of 8 wickets under the leadership of Yuvraj Singh, as the encounter happened in Durban 2009.

In the end, JP Duminy’s 59 runs from 63 balls were all for nothing as Mumbai continued to lose wickets at regular intervals due to Kumar Sangakkara’s outstanding innings, in which he scored 45 runs from 44 balls in hindsight. It was a three-run loss for them.

Eventually, Punjab won that game by 3 runs due to brilliant spell from their ace Bowlers.

In hindsight, the Hyderabad bowlers put on an incredible bowling display on the table, with Siddharth Kaul claiming three wickets for 23 runs during a brilliant spell.

The Mumbai batters would have assumed it would be a simple cakewalk. Basil Thampi, who took two wickets for four runs in his allotted 1.5 overs, provided him with excellent support at the other end.

Eventually they got bundled out on 97 runs handing Hyderabad 21 runs victory.

1. Chennai Super Kings vs Kings X1 Punjab(116 runs defended by Chennai against Kings X1 Punjab in 2009):

Another iconic matchup, perhaps the greatest IPL match ever, took place in South Africa in 2009 when the Chennai Super Kings batted first and amassed 116 runs at a cost of nine wickets.

The Chennai Super Kings’ top scorer, Parthiv Patel, amassed 32 runs off of 23 balls. With his outstanding bowling rotational changes, captain Dhoni once again put things in perspective, limiting Punjab’s batters to a pitiful 92 runs at the cost of eight wickets.

In the end, Chennai prevailed by 24 runs, likely the lowest total the Chennai Super Kings have ever defended in IPL history.

These five matches were all the most elegant ones, with the lowest score being defended to the hilt thanks to outstanding bowling ability and captaincy strategies used during the crucial part of the match.
