He was born on July 3rd, 1951 in Christchurch, New Zealand. He is the son of cricketing legend Walter Hadlee and brother of famous cricketers, Barry, and Dayle Hadlee. His former wife Karen was an international cricket player. This left-handed bowler’s nickname is Sir Paddles. This Right Arm fast bowler took the whole world go crazy with his skills.

Sir Richard was appointed as the member of the most excellent order of the British Empire in 1980. He was given knighthood in 1990 for his excellent contribution to the world of cricket. He was added to the ICC Cricket Hall of fame on 3rd April 2009. In 2018 he got diagnosed with bowel cancer and is going through proper treatment and tumor removal surgery. In 86 test matches of his life, he took 431 wickets which were a record back then and he was the first ever bowler to cross 400 wicket target. Throughout his career, he made 3124 runs including 15 fifties and two impeccable centuries.
Hadlee brothers helped New Zealand to win over its first ever historic win against England where Sir Richard took 6 crucial wickets for 26 runs. During ‘1979-80’ season; New Zealand took over West Indies who was the most formidable cricket team of that time. New Zealand won the first test by 1 run which was very shocking for every cricket fan. In 1983 New Zealand won the first test match against England on the field of England’s soil. He was chosen as the Wisden cricketer of the year in 1982.
