The influence of the BCCI is evident in the ICC calendar from 2024 to 2031, with India hosting the majority of Cricket World Cup venues.
However, a cloud has descended over the Indian cricket community with the news that former Indian cricketer Anshuman Gaikwad is battling blood cancer and undergoing treatment in Baroda. This has prompted Kapil Dev, the legendary captain of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning team, to urge former cricketers to step forward and assist Gaikwad during this challenging period.
Kapil Dev emphasized Gaikwad’s significant contributions to Indian cricket and highlighted the necessity for the BCCI to extend its support. “Gaikwad has been a terrific player for India and deserves all the support from the BCCI,” Dev stated. He reflected on the past, noting, “Back then, we didn’t have a powerful cricket board, but now we do. It is imperatively important that the current cricket board, which is financially powerful, should come forward and help him in this time of crisis.”
