- In the year 1751, the first-ever cricket match on Indian soil was recorded between the British Army and Indian settlers.
- In 1792 the Calcutta Cricket Club was founded, which is the second oldest cricket club in the world after Marlybone Cricket Club in 1787.
- In the year 1848, the Oriental Cricket Club was founded by the Parsis in the country, but the concept failed miserably, but the Parsis gain formed a new cricket club named the Young Zoroastrians Club in 1850.
- Looking at the Young Zoroastrians Club success the Hindu also started the Hindu Gymkhana club and in a span of one year, the big clubs like Mumbai Gymkhana and the Parsi Gymkhana came into existence.
- In the year 1884, the first-ever international cricket was played on Indian soil between Sri Lanka and British.
- In the year 1912 India sent an All India team to England, the first-ever captain of Indian cricket team was Maharaja of Patiala, who also financed the entire Indian tour.
- Finally in the year 1928 after a hard-fought verbal tussle for months the Board of Cricket Control in India came into existence.
- During the initial years, the BCCI functioned as an unregistered association, but in the year 1940, it was finally registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
- In the year 1975 BCCI was once again registered as private club consortium under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975.
