Early Life
Born on 11th December 1963, in Auckland, New Zealand, Mark John Greatbatch displayed great talent in cricket from his childhood. Auckland is a place known for its cricketers, and Mark was no doubt influenced by all the other great cricket players who came from Auckland.
Domestic Career
Being one of the great players of his time, Mark Greatbatch played for two of the most well known domestic teams in New Zealand, Auckland and Central Districts, which are no doubt two of the finest teams in the entirety of New Zealand. However, Mark Greatbatch’s domestic career isn’t one of much note and wasn’t anywhere as significant as his international year.
International Career
Greatbatch amazed the world with his highest score, 146 not out off 485 balls, which left the jaws of people both in New Zealand and in foreign countries open, as this was an unbelievable feat, and made Greatbatch one of the legends of cricketing. This score was made against Australia at Perth. This was a match where he put his entire being into keeping the team from being defeated, and the world was not blind to this.
He played against South Africa, replacing John Wright (who was absent due to an injury), and played great against the African team, giving the greatest batting action that would be seen for some time.
